Montrose began operations in late stages of World War II with a commission from the USA government to manufacture field wire for military communications. Montrose manufacturing plant was setup in Auburn, Massachusetts. At the end of the war with the initial two extruders the new company focused it's capability in the commercial markets. Targeting the brown goods industry, Montrose became a major supplier to radio and TV manufacturers such as Magnavox, Motorola, RCA, Zenith and Admiral. Manufacturing discrete wires and harnesses for radio chassis and fly back transformers.
In the late 1950s Montrose became a major supplier to cable assembly companies servicing Univac for their Illiac computer, and General Time later to become IBM. Montrose's ability to supply volume discrete insulated wires and to quickly react to customers requirements with design, development and manufacture of products has led to a reputation of outstanding customer service which continues to this day.
Montrose was the first cable manufacturer which became famous for developing "Data Specialty products." Some of its early customers were IBM and Dell. Montrose was the leader in developing of the "Bus & tag Cable" & "Air Gap Coax" which was specially developed for the IBM Sytem/360.
